Everything is alright in Truckee, CA

We know Truckee is the place to be, but a little extra recognition never hurt. 7x7 recently put together a Modern Guide To Truckee, CA, listing some of the best places to eat and drink, shop, get outside, and shred the gnar. As the article points out, the name Truckee came from a Paiute chief, who yelled at early explorers, "Tro-kay!," who originally assumed it was his name. As it turns out, it means "everything is alright" which is a description of Truckee that even Matthew McConaughey would approve.

We are delighted to be included, especially in company with our awesome neighbors. Here are some of our fellow highlights featured in the list.

Among the food and drink spots are our friends across the street and frequent lunch of choice, Jax at the Tracks. Their vintage diner setting and comfort food is a great pit-stop. For evening fare, Old Town Tap is a newer venue, recently winning New Business of the Year for their artisan cocktails and tasty apps and pizzas. Coffee Bar sits on historic Jiboom Street and not only has good coffee, but is a great spot to meet with friends, work remotely, or take in some sun on the patio.

Once you've had your fill of sustenance, it's time to shop. In addition to Tahoe University (humblebrag) head over to Bespoke for their rustic general store vibe. JoAnne's Stained Glass is a long-time Truckee staple, perfect for a unique, handmade piece of art. Nomad is an ideal stop for the young, hip fashionista to stay on trend.

It wouldn't be a trip to Truckee if you didn't get outside. Everyone knows about the skiing (we'll get to that in a minute) but the area offers endless opportunity to take in Mother Nature year round. A stop at Rainbow Bridge on Donner Summit is an absolute must-stop for photo ops. Just be careful crossing the bridge... Next up is Martis Valley, one of the protected gems of the area. It's breathtaking beauty and lack of development is the perfect way to unplug from the hustle and bustle. Bouldering is a favorite activity around here and one of the prime spots is Castle Peak. Always bring a buddy to spot.

And finally, 7x7 would be remiss if they didn't mention Truckee's proximity to some of the top skiing the best coast...er West Coast has to offer. Northstar, right in Truckee's outskirts, offers a family friendly village with epic views of Tahoe up top. Perhaps the most famous mountain, Squaw Valley, was home to the Olympics and offers the widest variety of terrain. You can even go swimming AND ice skating at High Camp. And if downhill skiing/boarding has wrecked your knees, Royal Gorge's cross country trails are the perfect way to see the sights with a lower risk of injury.

We love our home and as much as we want to keep this little secret of the Sierra all to ourselves, the people and community are really what make it great. We're honored to be a part of that and hope you visit soon. Make sure to stop by and say hi to us over on West River Street. And if you already knew this is the spot to be, sport it with pride with our "Truckee Is Always A Good Idea" Tahoe U original tee.
