First sign of flakes!

First sign of flakes get ready for snow Tahoe U Blog

Did you see it? That little joy-inducing snowflake icon started popping up in the weather forecast and the giddy grin can't be wiped off. Sure, we'll regret saying this one of these days when we're digging our way out of the driveway just to go to the grocery store but we can't help but get excited every year when the first sign of winter appears.

According to most weather apps, the fluffy stuff looks to arrive just in time for Thanksgiving. That is something we can all be thankful for! That may feel like eons from now when you've been doing your snow dance, but thankfully we've got a few sunny days to get out your final fall fix.

And if you're REALLY ready for snow, cheer up buttercup! Thanks to extra cold temps at night for snowmaking the past few weeks, Squaw Alpine, Northstar and Mt. Rose are all open for business, er shredding! Don't forget you can book a lesson with an Olympian with our friends at Stomp Sessions.

Our first winter open was a doozy, but last year gave us much needed practice and now we feel like old pros so we're ready. Bring it on weather gods! And as we always say, lower the temperature all the more reason to layer on the fashion.

We love any excuse to get new gear, so why not blame the weather. You're just being practical! We've got all kinds of new winter layers in-stock like flannel, shearling, cashmere, and more. Plus we always have a few good Tahoe U Originals that reflect our enthusiasm for the winter months.

On a more serious note, the much-needed moisture cannot come sooner to the entire state of California. We deeply appreciate the joy of living here and the activities it lends us, but we'd be remiss if we didn't mention that our hearts and minds have been on our neighbors in Paradise, CA as well as those in Southern California who have lost everything. We encourage you all to open your homes to any friends or family needing an escape from the smoke and if you can, contribute to one of the many orgs working to get an entire community back on their feet.  Many donation centers are inundated with goods, so gift cards and monetary donations are appreciated at this time.
