Layer it on me

When it comes to mountain living, it's all in the layers. Even in the summer months, nights are cool and when the winter comes, storms can change on a moment's notice. Locals know it's practical to be prepared, but we also love that it's a great excuse to show off even more of our wardrobe. More layers = more fashion!

We've picked our essential layers for the mountain wardrobe:

Army Jacket

Lightweight and roomy, this layer can be tossed on in a pinch, and still looks cool if it gets wrinkled in your backpack. Plus olive green is an easy neutral to work with. Mix in a camo option for pattern play.

Flannel Button-up

The lumberjack staple is key to every mountaineer's closet. The versatile layer adds warmth in the fall and winter, but is easy enough to keep with you for cool summer nights. From classic plaid to strips and florals, play around with patterns.

Cozy Cashmere Sweater

Sweater weather is our favorite, and around here, it's pretty much year round. When it comes to staples, it's worth the investment to get the softest snuggle with a nice cashmere. Throw your favorite sweater on over a t-shirt or dress in the spring and summer evenings, and transition into fall and winter by layering it under your coat. Pick a cute one for that après beer on the way back from the slopes.

Go-to Hat

Hats are a great way to add personal style and keep your noggin covered. Plus, we all have a bad hair day from time to time.  Whether it's a trucker hat or a beanie, it's always good to toss in the car or bag.

Comfy Tee

The base and most important layer is a comfy t-shirt. Cotton is breathable, and all of Tahoe U's original tees are made with bamboo cotton which is super soft and durable. Plus we don't mind showing off our local pride.

These are just a few of the basics that can really stretch your wardrobe from season to season. Accessorize with fun pops of color and your favorite bootie. Don't be afraid to incorporate more trendy pieces to keep things fresh throughout the year. We always recommend to save on passing trends (culottes, anyone?) and splurge on the staples.
